Bob Logue

Letter from an escapee

Dear Bob:

I read your e-mails that you forward to me concerning the taxation problems of Pennsylvania. As you know, I moved out of Pa. long ago because of unfair taxes and job losses. I became fed up with my taxes constantly going up while my income was not. It became such a problem that I finally did something about it. The government officals ideas of solving the problems were that of what I would expect from Ebeneiser Scrooge. "Let them die and deplete the population" attitude if you will. I saw the great people of Pa. being forced to relocate to other states where the taxes were more affordable. Pennsylvania has been losing their tax base as more jobs were lost. With less of a tax base did the officials downsize? No, they simply solved this tax revenue loss by doubling the tax of those who were left. The land and property tax in Pa. has forced families out of their homes only to be bought up by the rich at a fraction of their worth and rent them back to those same families. I feel empathy for those families and am outraged that the great state of Pennsylvania has politicitions who are not able to see the forest for the trees! I moved to North Carolina and purchased a nice home, built in 1991, back in 1995. The home is in a subdivison and I have an acre of flat land which I have landscaped. The taxes on this property per year are $800 +/- a few dollars. I would be horrified to find out how much tax I would have to pay if this home were in Pa. Also my new- found home has been growing ever since I moved here. New businesses opening all the time. Dell has been given a $24million tax break to come here. In case Pa. politicians don't know it , businesses too get fed up and move out to where the grass is greener! I foresee more poverty and only rich and poor families in Pa. if they continue on this path. Thank You.

Respectfully Yours,

Ron, Looks like you made the right move. I can say that I love the area of PA that I live in, but as you said, I can no longer accept the constant school tax increases. I had all intentions of retiring here in five years, but now am working with a realtor in South Carolina for property to build a home on. My salary has not kept up with the taxation demands made by PA; and feel I would put myself and family in jeoparty if I stay here. My home is paid off, but every year I feel I write a large rent check to the school board to stay in my home. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!
