S.T.O.P.

NEW LEGISLATION

Our new legislation to abolish ALL Property taxes on Primary Residences in Pennsylvania is being circulated among your legislators to secure co-sponsors. The first of the press conferences announcing the legislation's re-introduction is being organized for late in August to get maximum coverage and impact. The initial press conference will occur in Pittsburgh for reasons we will explain later.

Then, we hope to hold a second press conference in Harrisburg shortly thereafter, once the legislators return from their summer recess...again to attract as much attention to our legislation as possible. You will be invited to both press conferences once details have been worked out.

There are some modifications to the replacement taxes from the first legislation due to changes in taxation already enacted during the budget process. It is important that we all endorse the entire legislation once it is introduced.

One important change is that Senator Logan and Rep. Gergely have written into the legislation an Emergency Amendment clause. In other words, instead of seeking an amendment to the constitution which requires passage of the proposed amendment by two separate legislatures, we are asking that the legislators who support the bill, instead support an emergency amendment that would require passage by only one legislature, and then a referendum vote by the citizens. If this is enacted this fall, we could have our amendment on the Spring Primary Election Ballot.

Tens of thousands of people losing their homes to the manmade disaster called assessments\reassessments\sheriff sales requires action NOW to stop this abuse of our citizens especially those on lower incomes.

When the legislation is introduced and the press conference held, we want you to urge the legislators to simply give the public a chance to vote on the amendment. We would then know if the public supports the concept of abolishment of all property taxes on primary residences (homesteads\farmsteads)....or not. So far, our volunteers efforts have resulted in 113,640 signatures in support of our STOP plan. That is likely the largest all volunteer, grass roots petition drive in Pennsylvania history. Using the standard rule of thumb legislators apply of ten supporters for every one signature or letter, we can safely state that there are more than a million Pennsylvanians who agree with us.

It is important that we not get hung up pieces of the legislation. Instead, we must be unified in our overall support of the bills as introduced. We simply want the legislative leadership to permit hearings on our legislation. Your role NOW is to ask your legislators--Senator and Representative-- to become co-sponsors of our legislation.

Your role AFTER THE PITTSBURGH PRESS CONFERENCE, would be to:
1.Strongly support the legislation.
2. Ask your legislators--YOUR STATESENATOR AND REPRESENTATIVE AND THE GOVERNOR (WHO WILL BE SEEKING YOUR VOTE IN 2006)--to support giving the public the right to vote on ourSTOP constitutional amendment.
3. Demand hearings on our legislation in both the House and Senate.

This note is just an update to make you aware of what is happening. What should you be doing now? Continue to secure petition signatures. Continue to circulate STOP literature to educate as many Pennsylvanians as possible. You may think everyone knows about our grassroots effort and our proposals, but that is simply not true. Continue to invite people to visit the STOP WEB SITE www.GrandOldUSA.com and my 'people's web site htttp://www.spedunkie.com (or use Google or Ask Jeeves search engines and type in the word spedunkie). Once there, hit on the STOP page for updates.

Make the effort to abolish ALL PROPERTY TAXES ON PRIMARY RESIDENCES a regular part of your conversation with friends and family.

Get them involved NOW! 2006 is a year of elections for governor and for half the senators and all of the members of the House of Representatives. This is the opportunity of a lifetime to once and for all actually own your home and not just rent it from the government. This is the opportunity of a lifetime to reverse the out migration of our Pennsylvania citizens; to dramatically improve our state's economy by creating enormous economic activity and tens of thousands of jobs while rebuilding our cities, towns and rural areas; and to make Pennsylvania the most attractive place in the nation to buy a home and live.

You are welcome to share this note with anyone and everyone you wish. Make copies and hand it to friends and relatives. E-mail it to everyone on your e-mail list.

George says :
Good luck! I only wish I could help.
Scott Bannon says :
George, you can! Check out the Take Action page. There's plenty that you can do right from home to help move Pennsylvania forward.
Dave in PGH says :
Tried sending the e-letter from the take action page and it wouldn't work.
Chrissy Miller says :
The form has been sending emails, there was a issue with the confirmation page which I have fixed. I'm sorry for the problems.
Dave in PGH says :
Thanks Chrissy;

I have been sending letters, e-mails, and contacting my reps for several years now over property taxes. Let us hope that something constructive comes out of these efforts otherwise my family is going to be another statistic (moving out of state).
Kenneth A. Noll says :
I have been writing editorials and send e-mails to legislators for 6 years. I am in strong hope this one will work.
Joe Lehigh County says :
I became aware of S.T.O.P. and www.grandoldusa.com during November 2005. Yes, I represent the Ordinary Joe. One conclusion can be made. Voters that support the S.T.O.P. program will not vote to re-elect Governor Rendell. The S.T.O.P. petiton has been signed by 100,000 people. The focus needs to be one million signatures. Complete abolishment of the property tax will occur once the voter is educated. I will start by delivering 50 leaflets that focus the voter on visiting www.grandoldusa.com.
Jack says :
I've been on the letter rounds for years with my state Rep. and everytime he answers me all I understand is property reliefn I keep telling him that don't cut it, we need abolishment so we can oun our own property without partnership with the local schoolboard county or state. I seems they don't get it. It's very discouraging but election time is comming. As you know they all bring home big checks to their districts for much un-needed projects around election time which amounts to campaigning with our tax money. wake up voters, be aware of what they are doing with our tax money. The money for the necessary projects will still be there no matter who is in office. Don't vote for those who are against the stop program or are dragging their feet because their brain isnot listen to their people.
