GILPIN TOWNSHIP SUPERVISORS UNANIMOUSLY CALL FOR ABOLISHMENT OF SCHOOL, COUNTY AND MUNICIPAL PROPERTY TAXES

In a resolution adopted November 14TH, 2005 the Gilpin Township, Armstrong County Board of Supervisors unanimously passed a resolution calling upon the state legislature to abolish property taxes and replace them with other forms of taxation to fund schools, counties and municipalities. Supervisors:
Dennis Wolfe,
Richard Sproull
John Thomas
William Tarr
Joseph Vigna
enacted the following resolution:

WHEREAS, Property taxes in Pennsylvania place a heavy burden on senior citizens, disabled and other family homeowners who are on fixed or low incomes; and
WHEREAS, current property taxes are based on subjective assessment many times causing taxation to unequal and unfair; and
WHEREAS, Property taxes are costly to collect and administer; and
WHEREAS, Property taxes in Pennsylvania fund the public education system in each locale causing unfair and inequitable school districts for our children; and
WHEREAS, The time has come for Pennsylvania to thoroughly review and search for alternatives to the existing property tax system; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Gilpin Township Board of Supervisors does hereby urge the Pennsylvania Legislators research alternative funding sources to replace the revenue provided by the existing property tax system for our schools, municipalities and counties.
