Joe Lehigh County says :
Seven comments for the last article. We can do much better than that. We need to let our legislators know, how dissatisfied we are with the current system. My second story! I attended a second community meeting sponsored by our school board. The agenda item was building a new, or renovating our two existing elementary schools. The decision to renovate was decided somewhere between the first and second meeting. The second meeting had an attendance of one third, that of the first meeting. I would guess that half of the attendants were school administrators, faculty, and contractors. The contractors want a piece of the 26 million dollars. Once again, the minority has made a decision that will increase our school taxes substantially. School Boards have too much authority and it must end. A community wide vote should had been conducted. My vote would had been to renovate at the expense of currently budgeted items, and not increase school taxes.
Jill says :
During July 2005, I appeared before the Lehigh County Residential Board to appeal the unfair assessment of my property. I provided four properties that had similar square footage. The four properties also had more acreage than mine. Finally, the properties were within the same school district.I wanted to compare apples with apples. The only difference being, my property taxes were $300 to $700 more. The Board stated that my house was of greater value today; than, when it was first assessed ten years prior.
In other words, they wanted to compare apples with oranges. I stated that my property has increased in value, just like the four comparable houses. During October, a letter of denial was received. During November, I voted against Jane Ervin (County Executive). Jane Ervin lost the election.
During November, I will vote against all politicians who do not support S.T.O.P. Governor Rendell, Abolish All Property Taxes!

Jack says :
I just finished my 2005 Income Tax forms. President Bush, thank you for the extra $400 dollars. Their is only one problem. My property taxes were increased by $600. Governor Rendell, get with the program! Abolish All Property Taxes.
Bob says :
If you have not figured it out yet, let me provide my two cents. School Boards exist so that they can spend our money. Just pay your taxes, and be thankful that school board members are not paid for their services.
Irene says :
Do a web search on the following: Election year tax reform unlikely by Brad Bumsted. The article was written on Feb. 10, 2002. Four years have passed without change. School districts have been wary of Act 50 because not all districts have an adequate income base to replace property taxes, said Tim Allwein, lobbyist for the Pennsylvania School Boards Association. Moreover, there is widespread objection to the back-end referendum in Act 50 that requires voter approval for future tax increases. It's not gaining approval, Drachler said, because "school boards don't want voters to have a role in what they do." Now I understand the atmosphere of arrogance, when I attend School Board Meetings. Our so-called political leaders refuse to make changes. They must be voted out of office, especially Governor Rendell!
Tim Rupert says :
Hey, these legislators are really "slippery" I mail the members of the Property Tax Commission, after the hearings, and even though my Senator isn't on the commission, they won't answer me because I may not be in their district. They ask for my mailing address. I don't put my address on the net, I could have sent them any address, but why should it matter? My tax money would have paid their raise???? They ARE OBLIGATED to respond. We are TAX PAYERS and citizens of Pa. These people are just arrogant, and this is just another ploy to NOT ANSWER.
