GUILTY OR NOT?
Here's an interesting exercise I hope you will all try and then pass on to everyone you know:
1. Call your PA Senator and Representative and ask them how long they have been in office?
2. Multiply the number of years they have been in office by 25,000. That's a conservative estimate of the number of homes lost to sheriff sale per year in Pennsylvania's 67 counties. We actually believe it is closer to 30,000 to 40,000. But, let's be conservative for this exercise and use the 25,000 per year figure.
3. The answer will tell you the estimated number of Pennsylvania homes lost to sheriff sale during the time each of your legislators was in office.
If your legislator has served:
* Eight (8) years... an estimated 200,000 homes were sold via sheriff sale during his\her terms in office.
* Ten years....an estimated 250,000 homes were sold via sheriff sale during his\her terms in office.
* Fifteen years.... an estimated 375,000 homes were sold via sheriff sale during his\her terms in office.
How many of these homes do you think belonged to a legislator...or governor? To determine the number of Pennsylvania adults and children whose lives were disrupted by these sheriff sales, take the number of sheriff sales during your legislator's tenure, and multiply that figure by 2.5. The US Census bureau indicates the average home in Pennsylvania has 2 and a half residents. Example: 200,000 x 2.5 = 500,000 men, women and children impacted during a legislators eight years in office.
The legislators' inability to abolish property taxes on primary residences during their terms in office has helped to contribute to this disgrace. If they can't enact meaningful, permanent legislation which ABOLISHES all property taxes on primary residences and allows people to actually own their home instead of temporarily renting it from the government, then perhaps you need to vote for someone who can.
Remember, TAX REDUCTIONS are a fraud just to get the governor and legislators re-elected. Bob Logue, STOP, Box 306, Fairbank, PA 15435 ucblogue@verizon.net
